Hey folks, Lighthouse here with a few announcements. Expect to see a face-lift to this old site as we take things to the next step. Originally, we were just using this site to share our DJ sets with the world, but we can do so much more. One of our improvements will be more track recommendation like this beauty below....

All the way back in 2010, my better half got a hold of a quirky little track entitled "We No Speak Americano" by Yolanda Be Cool.

This track blew up big, getting radio play on such mainstream California stations like KIIS FM and AMP 97.1. The antiquated sampling along with a steady house beat has really appealed to the hipster crowd. Strangely enough, I've rarely heard the track played on the dance floor. It's got a crazy internet presence. Here's a fan-made music video from some of my partners in comedy: Kevin Stevenson, Tim Gale, and James Stebick.

I've dubbed this genre "funky folk" house. Since "Americano" a few more like-sounding tracks have cropped up. Here are two featured tracks from my last mix-

Drinking Piano – (Jones Mix)- David Jones, Ron May- Fun saxophone melody in this one.

Swing Time – (David Jones Edit)- Will Gold- Lots of horns.

I dig these tracks. They have a nice accent to your regular funky house track which helps them stand out in the ever-growing sea of electro. Don't get me wrong, electro is king right now, but I like to mix it up with the groovier side of house music.

Happy New Year internetz! Glad you've made it this far. The time just flies on by doesn't it? Hope ya'll have effectively nursed your hangovers from what I can only guess was a fun-overload for your New Years Eve. Here's the next installment of Sideburn Soul for your listening enjoyment. The Sideburn mixes are special to me because they're a throwback to the old disco and Chicago house sound. They're not the big banging destructo-tracks I've been dropping lately, but they have a certain charm and groove I know some of you big house heads out there can appreciate. Also, I this mix through a patch of what I've decided to call "funky folk" and lead up to a very progressive ending. I hope you enjoy it and the start of your new year. What we've been up to....

Lighthouse here showing off our new DJ booth. Look for this bad boy at a day party near you! Actually, we're taking this beauty to Burning Man first to see how sturdy she is.

We also picked up some great speakers that attach to the whole unit for mobile DJ action.

It's got a nice lil vanity mirror in the front so the dirty Burners can admire themselves (or we can bounce lasers off of it and zap the people who bug us).

Fancy equalizer bar artwork done by Poptart. Regal wallpaper-style paint job taken from old theatre flats. Recycling at it's best.

I'd like to add a big umbrella attachment to the floor of this so it's built-in shade wherever we go. Plus, I can add some shelves for the monitors, Serato box, and lap top.

The interior is fitted pretty well and I think I'll be able to get my Technics in there if I go battle style. But I don't have to worry about that now because we're taking Poptart's petite CDJ machine.

And my favorite part is that it all folds up into a 45" x 45" X 12" box for relatively easy transport.

We'll see you out and about.

To kick off this annual trip to the unwashed sea of geekery in San Diego, we at Cherry Spitz give you this podcast. I've been waiting for the perfect remix of this to pop up forever. It's not dj friendly for mixing, but the beauty of the song makes it worth it.

A classic, electro-fied. I used to listen to this song when I woke up on sunday mornings. Softens out the sass of Longest Road.

8) Sleep Deprivation (12" Version)- Simian Mobile Disco
Starts with back of your mind bleeps, and then ramps up into unstoppable an Harpsichord whirlwhind. So epic! What could possibly contain the power of this track?

9) Ce Jeu (Cool Kids Can't Die remix)- Yelle
The first strange discovery of this mix, poppy french girls taking out the harpsichord army with class and ease.

10) Lauren From Glebe (Damage Edit)- Muscles
We heard the music from over the fence, so we threw up our hands with a smile on our faces. Went to the front with our names on the list. Those who were strangers had turned into friends
This is what a good night out is about. I had to hold back from using more than one unashamedly joyful Muscles track in this set.

I've held on to the discovery of these two songs mashing up perfectly for a long time. Now it's finally recorded. Overdose takes the sappy happy if I Just can't get enough and turns it dark.

The girl from the ting tings sasses back in a powerful remix. Don't tell me what I want.

I've lost the info for where I got this track. But it calls back to I just can't get enough with a eerie, transcendent version of the song.

Such a unique sounding remix. I love it's unexpectedness.
